Kattil Beach is one of the amazing and miraculous beaches I ever visited located in Southern Kerala in a small village called Ponmana, Chavara. This beach is well known by the famous nearby Kattil Mekkathil Devi Temple, which survived during the Tsunami hit in 2004. The only way to reach this beach is via ferry or Vallam(Beaked Boat)which is an added attraction. Since this beach is located 2kms from National Highway-47, so you can get down here. The beach is located between National Waterway and Arabian Sea- i.e. you can come here all the way from Backwater(Alappuzha).
Beach is good, though it was for short distance. Very calm beach, zero pollution. Different from other beach you will find black sand here due to the high titanium content in it. Indian Government developed a Titanium Sponge Plant in this same locality, the authorities tried their hard to save the temple and beach premises and maintained the natural beauty of this place.
Kattil Mekkathil Devi Temple
This temple is an ancient pilgrim center for many, situated very near to the beach. The main Prathishta or Murti(image of God) is Devi. This temple is tied up with many mythologies like once a King visited near area saw a dream, in his dream he saw a magnificent Devi(Goddess) appeared at the same place where is temple at the present time and sung in the Sea and many such myths check more at the official Facebook page. Temple visitors ties bells for their wish fulfilment. Since the temple well is very close to the Sea it should be salty but instead it provides fresh water which is a miracle.
